A student of mine once asked me, “What does a perfect turn look like?”
Coming from a rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder, I haven’t been able to turn as much as I want. But then I remembered an old drill I heard about that really helped.
I developed that old drill into what I call the “Shoulder Look Over” drill I use for practice. Amazingly enough, you could increase your turn naturally by just looking over your shoulder.
A short breakdown:
- Look over your right shoulder before you swing.
- Memorize how it feels like during that turn. Be conscious of your hips, your legs’ position and body weight distribution.
- Duplicate the turn in your actual golf position and tee off.
Remember, the more you involve your upper body strength in a turn, the faster and farther your ball travels. This drill helps synchronize your entire body for the swing.
Don’t be afraid to overdo your turns. It is a better bet than underdoing your swing.
I’ll show you how I practice it in the video above.
